Choose an inference boundary
First complete the teaching lesson. Use the PocketCards codelab and this source revision for the practical work.
Your task
Write a cloud/on-device decision record for public exam notes, then revise it for confidential workplace notes.
Evidence to produce
State permitted data, network assumptions, fallback behavior, model/runtime evidence and what remains untested. Keep a small learning log in your own branch. Include the command or action you used, the expected result, the observed result and the reason for any difference. Do not include configuration values, tokens or private source notes.
Before checking the answer
Predict the outcome before you run the app. If the result differs, locate the responsible layer: input validation, ViewModel state, provider adapter, storage or rendering. Fixing the wrong layer can hide a symptom without meeting the requirement.
Review guidance
A local saved deck does not imply local inference. Manual creation is an honest fallback; silently uploading confidential notes is not.
Explain your decision
What additional evidence would let you recommend an on-device model? Answer with a concrete code reference and one observation from your run. If you can only repeat the terminology, revisit the lesson and demonstrate the behavior before moving on.
Check your work after attempting the exercise
For public notes, cloud inference can be reasonable with clear disclosure and an offline manual path. For confidential notes, first establish the permitted data boundary; do not assume cloud upload is allowed. A local proposal needs runtime, hardware and quality evidence.
If your result differs: “Use on-device because it is private” is incomplete. State download availability, supported devices, offline behavior and what you have actually measured. An unimplemented local adapter is a proposal, not a verified fallback.
Ready to continue: Your learning log contains a prediction, an observed result and a source reference. You can explain the result without copying this guidance. Carry the evidence into the final assessment.
